If it is not replace it immediately and this should take care of the problem. It is a very common problem that results in radiator fan failure. As the radiator fan is electrical the problem could be with the fuse. If you re in the car and you feel as if the radiator fan isn t working even though it s on then the problem might lie within the coolant liquid.

It is possible that a wire has worn out due to heat and needs replacement. Long term exposure to heat vibration moisture and corrosion can cause connections to go bad or wiring insulation to become brittle and flake off leaving wires exposed. Make sure the fuse for the radiator fan is intact. Although new cars are not immune to wiring problems radiator fan failures due to issues with wiring are more likely to occur on older vehicles.

If you don t know where the fuses are in your vehicle consult your owner s manual to see which fuse controls the cooling system. The fuse may burn off or simply fall off. On some modern vehicles an ambient air temperature sensor vehicle speed sensor and other sensors may provide input to the car computer to determine radiator fan operation. If the fuse has gone the mechanic will need to replace it right away.

If your coolant level is low then it might not feel as if your car is getting cool even with the radiator fan turned on and working. Consult your vehicle repair manual to check the required sensors and switches. If the engine is heating but the fan isn t kicking in check the fan wires. If the fan is not working even when the car is heating up there might be a problem with the wiring.

On a warm engine the fan may come on even if the engine is not running.
