We bought the this because we liked the first camp chef fire pit called the compact ring that we bought which was smaller than the redwood had no base and did not have the built in lighter. Then we lit fires in them using logs of hickory and oak or in the case of the camp chef redwood a propane tank gauging access to the center of each for setting and maintaining the fires. Based on the original gclog the redwood is what all little gclogs aspire to be. We used it for the first time this weekend and were pleasantly surprised with its performance.
